Top 10 Rail Trails In New Jersey!

New Jersey has a plethora of old and abandoned historic canals and railroads! Some of which have now been turned into pedestrian paths! Check out the top 10 rail-trails in New Jersey!


1. Pleasantville to Somers Point Bike Path - Atlantic County

This 6.5-mile trail connects four small cities and travels through residential neighborhoods. While using this trail you'll pass by schools and parks.


2. Middle Township Bike Path - Cape May County

This path follows an abandoned railroad bed that runs between Cape May County Park and Whitesboro. There is an abundance of things you can access while using this trial. The Park Zoo, 4-H Fairgrounds, and Atlantic Cape Community College are just a few of them!


3. Columbia Trail - Hunterdon & Morris County

The Columbia Trail runs from Morris County to Hunterdon County. While using this trail you'll travel from forest to woods and experience many different environments. Along the way, you can stop off at the coffee potter and grab a cup to go or enjoy right next to the trail!


4. Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail - Hunterdon, Somerset & Mercer County

This park is also known as the D&R Canal State Park. This path follow the old towpath of the canal and runs for about 70 miles. On this route, you'll pass many parks and old historic 19th-century buildings. 5. Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway - Monmouth County

You could spend a whole day exploring this 5-mile path! This was the first segment of a 55-mile trail called Capitol to Coast that will span New Jersey. Along this path is plenty of scenic and historic spots to stop and explore!


6. Henry Hudson Trail - Monmouth County

7. Sandy Hook Multi-Use Pathway - Monmouth County

This pathway spans the length of the Sandy Hook Recreational area and is a great way to see the historic old military base. There are some shady areas along with a bird observatory and many nature lookouts!


8. Barnegat Branch Trail - Ocean County

This little trail runs along the shore and is just gorgeous in the spring and summer months when the path is surrounded by wildflowers and so many different animals!


9. Paulinskill Valley Trail - Sussex & Warren County

This 27-mile trail brings a lot of different types of users! From bikers, horseback rides and even dog sledders! Youll travel through the rural towns of North Jersey! 10. Sussex Branch Trail - Sussex County

This 20-mile trail was formerly a mule-drawn mine railroad used to move iron ore to the morris canal! Nowadays it's used for New Jersey resident's leisure use!
